A BOOK ABOUT ANIMALS: Prepublished.
This is a poetry book of a very different nature. It, too, is divided into four parts (Animals in Homes, Animals in Backyards and Barnyards, Animals in Nature, and Animals in the Wildlife Park or Zoo). The feature that makes this book different is that, while it is geared for reading and pleasure, it is also designed for the teaching and writing of various poetic forms and devices.
The Glossary of Poetic Tools applies to 1) Figures of Speech, 2) Fixed Forms or Poetic Devices, and 3) Rhyme Schemes and Rhythms. In addition to the glossary, sample poems can be found to demonstrate how each of these items can be used in poetry, both in reading it as well as in writing it.
This unique book has been written to appeal to three major groups of people: first, the children (kindergarten through fifth grade) for which the poems have been written, teachers in these grade levels, and parents, especially those who home-school their children.
Following, you will find two sample poems taken from A BOOK ABOUT ANIMALS:
