Plays for Children
HOW DO YOU KISS AN ELEPHANT? (Copyright, 2007)
(Performed but not yet published)
(Performed but not yet published)
This musical play is especially designed for elementary or middle grade children. It is appropriate for either school or church performances.
The story line of the play is concerned with a child who has a handicapping condition or has been in an accident, etc., which confines the child to a wheelchair. Since this child is unable to take part in physical activities, his/her teacher has suggested that he/she might want to get involved with having pen pals from around the world. Then, on the child's birthday, other children in the child's classroom or neighborhood find a way to surprise him/her by arranging a visit to the zoo, which is something the "birthday child" had jokingly wished for. It has a happy ending!
The play is designed with seven acts/scene changes. The scenes for these acts are as follows:

SAMPLE SONG (Child sitting in wheel chair sings first verse (of three verses) and refrain):
EVERY DAY I SIMPLY DARE . . . TO DREAM
EVERY DAY I SIMPLY DARE . . . TO DREAM
V. 1.
|
I can take a plane to Spain or I can soar to Singapore;
I jump aboard my dream . . . and I wonder. I can stray to Santa Fe or I can ski to Tennessee, Or jet ski to Austral-i-a down under. |
Refrain:
|
Yes, I . . . am free . . . as free as I can be,
I'm free to travel here and there, To climb a mountain, feel the air. I'm free . . . to see . . . each place I want to be, To meet new people, show I care, My dreams can take me anywhere That gets me out of this old chair, So every day I simply dare . . . to dream. |
ANOTHER SAMPLE SONG THAT IS FINALE OF THE PLAY:
HOW DO YOU KISS AN ELEPHANT
HOW DO YOU KISS AN ELEPHANT
V. 1 of 7:
|
You can stroke a pretty kitty
While you listen to it purr; You can rub a fluffy puppy While you ruffle up its fur; But how do you kiss an elephant To show it that you care? Do you climb up on a ladder? Do you stand up on a chair? |
This copyrighted musical play was performed with much acclaim at Glendale Baptist Church.
